Gianluca Fuoco Commits to Spirit
SAGINAW, MI – On Thursday, Saginaw Spirit General Manager Dave Drinkill announced Etobicoke, Ontario native and Spirit 10th round pick in 2015 Gianluca Fuoco (Foo-OH-co) has committed to the Saginaw Spirit for the 2016-17 season.
“We are pleased that Gianluca has committed to the Saginaw Spirit and look forward to seeing him in a Spirit jersey.” said Spirit General Manager Dave Drinkill.
Fuoco, 17, had a career year last season with the Toronto Titans Major Midget program in the Greater Toronto Hockey League. The 6’1, 180 pound centerman scored 18 goals and added 11 assists in 21 games for the Titans in ’15-16.
“Fuoco is the perfect example of someone who was a later pick, did everything we asked during his season of development including getting stronger, quicker, faster, and came back to prospect camp hungry for a spot. To be able to reward him with an OHL contract should serve notice to other draft picks and free agents that it doesn’t matter if or how high you are drafted, it is about what you do after the draft that matters. His dedication to do whatever he can to make the Saginaw Spirit has paid off. We want character people in our organization, players that want to get better and make a difference, Gianluca meets this criteria.”
Fuoco said: “I’m very honoured and excited in becoming a member of the Spirit family, but the hard work begins now. I look forward to camp and preparing for the regular season.”
Fuoco led the Spirit prospect camp in early May with five goals and an assist.
