Generals sign first round pick Brady Smith
Oshawa, Ont. – The Oshawa Generals organization is excited to announce the commitment of Brady Smith. Smith was selected 17th overall in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection Draft on Friday, April 12th and was acquired from the North York Rangers.
“It was such a surreal to get drafted to a first-class organization like Oshawa and I’m really looking forward to getting started soon,” says Smith.
Scouts note that Smith is one of the purest goal scorers in this year’s Priority Selection and has a shot that is second to none, he is extremely accurate with it and his release is at another level as he catches a lot of goalies off guard. He is a good skater and when he decides to turn it on, he has the ability to beat defenders wide and win races for loose pucks. He can find open ice in the offensive zone and is dangerous whenever he has the puck on his stick in the scoring areas. His scoring abilities make him a very intriguing prospect as he will have no trouble scoring at the next level.
In 33 games with the Rangers, Smith totalled 32 goals, 27 assists, and 59 points.
“Brady is another great prospect our scouts have identified,” says Generals Vice President and General Manager, Roger Hunt. “Every time you watch his team, Brady impacts the game. We see his offensive prowess translating to the OHL and will be looking for him to be a dynamic scoring addition to our club.”
GensNation’s first opportunity to see Smith on the ice comes during the 2024/25 Orientation Camp on May 11th and 12th. Scrimmages will be open to the public, and a schedule along with rosters will be made available soon.
Brady will proudly be wearing number 13.
