Friday Highlights: Steelheads, 67’s ring in new year with victories

MISSISSAUGA 8, SUDBURY 2
– Seven different Steelheads players had multi-point outputs led by captain Ethan Del Mastro with a career-high four assists.
– Aidan Prueter recorded a goal and two helpers to earn second star recognition while Ty Collins was the third star with a goal and an assist.
– Mississauga outshot Sudbury 44-27 and went 2-for-4 on the powerplay.
– Andre Anania scored his first career OHL goal for Sudbury.
– Joe Ranger made 25 saves to improve to 9-2-1-0 with a league-leading 1.93 goals-against average and .929 save percentage.
– The game was Sudbury’s first home action since Nov. 28th as the Wolves fell to 8-14-2-0.
– Mississauga wins its fourth in a row, wrapping up 2021 as the first place team in the OHL with a 19-7-1-1 record.

– Brady Stonehouse recorded his first career multi-goal effort with a pair of markers.
– Rookie defender Gavin Ewles scored in his OHL debut while Thomas Sirman scored a shorthanded highlight reel marker for the first of his career.
– San Jose Sharks prospect Brandon Coe scored his 20th of the season for North Bay.
– St. Louis Blues prospect Will Cranley stopped 20 of 21 for the win.
– Ottawa improves to 13-17-1-1 for fourth place in the East Division.
– The loss is North Bay’s sixth in a row as they fall to 16-11-2-2, now four points back of first place Mississauga in the Central Division.
