Friday Highlights: Spirit, Attack return to win column
SAGINAW 8, ERIE 1
– Buffalo Sabres prospect Josh Bloom had two goals and two assists, including a Spirit record-tying seventh shorthanded goal of the season.
– Mitchell Smith and Dalton Duhart both scored twice and added an assist.
– 2022 NHL Draft prospect Pavel Mintyukov also scored shorthanded for Saginaw, his 10th goal of the season.
– Elias Cohen scored Erie’s lone goal midway through the second period.
– Saginaw scored eight times on 20 shots, going 2-for-6 on the power play.
– Tristan Lennox stopped 19 of 20 for the win.
– Saginaw’s Carson Christy left the game with an injury in the second period and did not return.
– The Spirit end a six-game losing streak, improving to 17-29-1-0, four points back of Erie and seven out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference.
– The Otters lose their fourth in a row, falling to 18-24-1-2, three points out of a playoff spot.

OWEN SOUND 6, KITCHENER 2
– The Attack end an eight-game losing slide as Servac Petrovsky and Colby Barlow both scored twice.
– Ethan Burroughs and Deni Goure both had a goal and an assist for Owen Sound.
– Joseph Serpa provided both Kitchener goals, scoring one of them shorthanded. Serpa now has points in 10 straight games.
– Nick Chenard stopped 34 of 36 for the win while Kitchener’s Pavel Cajan made 28 saves.
– The win improves Owen Sound to 20-23-2-2 as they pull two points ahead of Kitchener for sixth in the Western Conference.
– The Rangers drop their second straight and seventh in the last 10 games, falling to 19-22-2-2, tied for seventh in the Western Conference.

HAMILTON 7, NORTH BAY 2
– The Bulldogs earned their fifth straight win as Mason McTavish had two goals and an assist in his return from Canada’s Olympic team.
– Logan Morrison recorded a fourth straight game of at least three points, scoring twice along with two assists.
– Hamilton led 3-0 after one period and would score an additional three goals in the third.
– Kyle McDonald and Owen Van Steensel scored North Bay goals. McDonald extended his point streak to eight games.
– Hamilton outshot North Bay 45-27 as Marco Costantini made 25 saves for the win.
– Brandon Coe remained out of the lineup for the Battalion.
– The Bulldogs improve to 30-11-2-2, four points back of first place Mississauga in the Eastern Conference.
– North Bay loses for a second straight night, falling to 28-17-3-3.

– Detroit Red Wings prospect Pasquale Zito scored in a third straight game to open the scoring for Windsor.
– Owen Bennett stopped 23 of 24 for the win while Windsor’s Xavier Medina made 26 stops.

– Draft eligible forward Hunter Haight led the Colts with two goals, his 18th and 19th of the season.
– Sudbury scored a pair of empty net goals late to put things out of reach.
– The shots were even at 31 as the Wolves went 3-for-5 on the power play and the Colts went 2-for-3.
– Mitchell Weeks made 26 saves for the win while Barrie’s Matteo Lalama stopped 23. Mack Guzda was a scratch for the Colts.
– Sudbury improves to 18-26-3-2 for eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

– Niagara’s Danil Gushchin extended his point streak to 17 games with his 32nd goal of the season.
– Mississauga outshot Niagara 44-21, going 1-for-1 on the power play while holding the IceDogs to 0-for-4.
– Roman Basran made 19 saves in the win while IceDogs rookie Joey Costanzo was busy once again, making 41 saves.
