The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) is home to 20 teams—17 in Canada and three in the United States. Shifting the focus beyond hockey operations, the OHL aims to highlight the distinctiveness of each member club. The League will showcase how current players and future prospects embrace their junior hockey careers within their respective cities, emphasizing the unique qualities that define each team and its community.
HISTORY
North Bay, located in central Ontario, is a community known for its rich history, natural beauty, and passionate hockey fans. Once a major hub for the forestry and railroad industries, the city has evolved into a vibrant and welcoming community. The North Bay Battalion entered the OHL for the 2013–14 season, following their relocation from Brampton. The team began play in North Bay that year, marking the city’s return to OHL hockey after the North Bay Centennials moved to Saginaw in 2002. Over the years, the Battalion have developed numerous professional-level athletes and earned a reputation for strong player development. The team has experienced significant successes, including memorable playoff runs, making it to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Their most memorable season was their first year in North Bay, when they made it to the OHL Championship Series in 2014. The Battalion have built a loyal fanbase that passionately supports the team at every game, and they continue to be a major source of pride for North Bay, contributing to both the local sports scene and community spirit.

ARENA
Boart Longyear Memorial Gardens is the heart of North Bay hockey and the proud home of the Battalion. The venue features a 4,300-seat main arena and serves as a hub for community events and junior hockey action. Known for its passionate fanbase, the arena has hosted a variety of major events, including OHL showcases, concerts, and community gatherings. Owned by the City of North Bay, Memorial Gardens has a rich history, having been home to the North Bay Trappers and North Bay Centennials before becoming the home of the Battalion. It also serves as the home of the Nipissing University Lakers and has hosted major Ringette and Curling championship events, further cementing its place as a key venue in the region.
EDUCATION
Current North Bay Battalion high school players attend Chippewa Secondary School, where they balance academic success with their on-ice development. The school provides a supportive environment that accommodates the demands of junior hockey. For players pursuing post-secondary education, the North Bay area offers access to respected institutions including Nipissing University and Canadore College.
SPECIAL EVENTS
The Battalion participate in a variety of special events that foster team bonding and strengthen community connections. Team Building Tuesdays bring players together each week through fun activities like the Amazing Race, marble races, and more. Team breakfasts during the week also help build routine and camaraderie. The team also hosts Mom’s and Dad’s Weekend, giving families a chance to share in the season, while the Gateway Golf Simulator offers a fun outlet away from the rink. Additional highlights include the Pre-Season Fan Fest, billet skates and events, Kid’s Club activities, meet & greets with fans, and outdoor rink practices, all contributing to the strong bond between the Battalion and the North Bay community.
NOTABLE ALUMNI
The Battalion have a strong tradition of developing top-tier talent, with several alumni making significant impacts at the professional level. Notable names include Barclay Goodrow, a key forward for the San Jose Sharks and a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Tampa Bay Lightning; Nick Paul, an established NHL presence with the Lightning; and Mike Amadio, a Stanley Cup champion with the Vegas Golden Knights who now plays for the Ottawa Senators. Other alumni making waves include Ty Nelson, a rising star in the Seattle Kraken organization; Dom DiVincentiis, a promising goaltender in the Winnipeg Jets system; and Justin Brazeau, currently progressing with the Minnesota Wild.
BILLET LIFE
The Battalion are proud to be supported by 20 dedicated billet families, with additional families signed up as backups if needed. These families, all located in the North Bay area, provide players with a safe, stable, and welcoming home away from home throughout the season.

Memorial Gardens, home to the Battalion, stands at the heart of North Bay’s hockey culture. Just steps away, Lee Park offers stunning views of Lake Nipissing and serves as a popular spot for festivals, picnics, and waterfront strolls. Known as the Gateway of the North, the city also boasts outdoor gems like Trout Lake, a favourite for paddling and relaxing by the water, and the scenic Cranberry Trails, perfect for hiking and spotting local wildlife. Duchesnay Falls adds a touch of adventure with its beautiful cascading waters and forested trails—making North Bay a destination where nature and community thrive together.

North Bay is a true sports and outdoors hub, with three arenas all within 10 minutes of each other—making it easy for the community to stay active and connected through hockey. The city has a proud hockey history, once home to the North Bay Trappers and Centennials, and today, Battalion fans continue that legacy with unmatched passion. Locals and visitors alike take in spectacular sunsets over Lake Nipissing, enjoy time on the water aboard the Chief Commanda, and hit the slopes at Laurentian Ski Hill. Golfers have their pick of courses, with the North Bay Golf and Country Club standing out as a local favourite.

North Bay serves up a delicious mix of local eats and classic favourites. Burger World, Ivan’s Restaurant, and Syl’s Neighborhood Kitchen are longtime staples. Between the Bun is a go-to for loaded burgers and creative combos, while The Boat is a team favourite!
