Manager, Social Media & Digital Content
Position: Full-time Permanent, hybrid remote
Department: Business Operations
Reports to: Director, Communications
Position Overview:
The Manager, Social Media & Digital Content will lead the league’s social media strategy, content creation, and digital fan engagement initiatives. This role requires a dynamic communicator with a passion for hockey, strong writing and content production skills, and a deep understanding of the digital landscape. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting the league, its players, and its teams to a wide-ranging and growing audience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead on the development and execution of the OHL’s social media strategy across platforms including X (Twitter), Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and emerging platforms
- Oversee real-time coverage of games, events, and league announcements
- Assist in managing team of game night content staff, ensuring thorough and accurate coverage of in-game developments while identifying engaging content opportunities
- Identify, produce and distribute engaging content (graphics, video, written posts) that tells the story of the OHL’s teams, players, alumni, and initiatives)
- Update graphic templates and create visuals to support content offerings
- Collaborate with all league departments (Hockey Operations, Business Operations and League Operations) and member teams to amplify messaging and campaigns
- Monitor trends, audience insights, and analytics to optimize engagement and reach
- Oversee content calendar and manage digital publishing tools
- Support crisis communications and media relations with timely and aligned social messaging
- Work with OHL’s content creators to foster relationships with member teams to generate authentic, behind-the-scenes content
- Maintain a strong and consistent brand voice across all digital channels
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of professional experience in social media management, preferably in sports or entertainment
- Deep knowledge of social media platforms and current trends in digital content
- Strong writing, editing, and creative storytelling skills
- Experience with content creation tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, CapCut) with an emphasis on Photoshop ability to provide supporting graphic needs
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends during the hockey season or around major league events on the calendar
- Passion for sports and a strong understanding of the game of hockey and its culture
- Experience with social media analytics and performance reporting
- Strong project management and organizational skills
