Cowan’s 34-game point streak a new benchmark for Knights
Easton Cowan collected a pair of assists in Sunday’s 7-4 road win over the Windsor Spitfires as London hit the 100-point mark and the Maple Leafs first round pick set a new Knights franchise record.
With points in 34 consecutive games dating back to Nov. 25th, Cowan set a new Knights benchmark, surpassing a 1993-94 record of 33 set by Dave Gilmore. Cowan’s run of consistency has featured 23 goals, 41 assists and 64 points as London has played to a mark of 26-5-1-2 over the course of the streak.

“He exemplifies consistency and preparation,” Knights general manager Mark Hunter told The London Free Press’ Ryan Pyette of Cowan’s approach to the game. “It just doesn’t happen that he is good every game. He works hard in practice, focuses before every practice and game and is prepared for it. He understands what he needs to do to be better.”
Hailing from nearby Mt. Brydges, Ont., Cowan grew up watching the Knights and has quickly bloomed into one of the OHL’s premier two-way forwards, currently tied for the league lead in shorthanded goals with teammate Denver Barkey, each having scored seven.
After capturing the Wayne Gretzky Trophy as Western Conference champions last spring, the 48-14-1-3 Knights are closing in on the Hamilton Spectator Trophy as the OHL’s regular season champions having recently clinched their fifth consecutive Midwest Division title. Cowan has been a big part of that success. His 34-game run is the OHL’s longest since Sarnia’s Trevor Letowski strung together points in 34 straight during the 1996-97 season. Former Windsor Spitfires captain and current general manager Bill Bowler had a 41-game run in 1994-95. The OHL record stands at 55 games, set by Cornwall Royals forward Doug Gilmour in 1982-83.
A first round (28th overall) pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2023 NHL Draft, Cowan’s 1.77 points-per-game are the second-highest production rate in the OHL, with 92 (32-60–92) spread across 52 contests.
The Knights return to action on Friday, hosting the Windsor Spitfires before closing out their regular season schedule on Sunday afternoon at home to the Guelph Storm.
