Golden Knights prospect Arttu Karki commits to Greyhounds
The Soo Greyhounds are pleased to announce that Vegas Golden Knights prospect Arttu Karki has signed an OHL scholarship and development agreement with the club. Karki was selected by the Greyhounds in the first round of the 2023 CHL Import Draft.
“It’s very exciting to be able to add a player of Arrtu’s calibre to our program for this season. Arrtu has all the tools of an elite defensemen. His size, skating ability and high-end puck skills makes him a threat – not just from walking the blue line but all over the ice” started GM Kyle Raftis.
He then added, “As someone who had many options on where to pursue his development this year, we are thrilled he chose the Hounds to partner with while he adjusts to playing in North America. We’re looking forward to having Arrtu with us at camp and getting him comfortable with the city, staff and his teammates.”
A native of Viiala, Finland, the 18-year-old defenceman recorded 13 goals and 26 assists, good for 39 points in 36 regular season games with Tappara U20 of the U20 SM-sarja Finnish league. He added 7 points (1-6-7) in 12 post-season contests.
The 6-foot-2, 176-lb. blueliner was selected earlier this summer in the third round (96th overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft by the Vegas Golden Knights.
“I’m very excited to play in OHL this season and I’m really looking forward to meet my new teammates and team staff. I have high expectations for next season and honoured to be a part of Soo Greyhounds” said Karki.
