67’s ink Boyd, Cameron to multi-year extensions
Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa 67’s announced, today, that General Manager James Boyd, and Head Coach Dave Cameron have signed multi-year extensions with the team.
“We have always felt the support from the organization and the people of Ottawa, while a special bond continues to form between our team and the incredible fans here,” said Boyd. “We will continue assembling, and supporting 67’s teams that our fan base will be proud of.”
Boyd, 47, joined the 67’s ahead of the 2017-18 season, following a long and successful tenure with the Mississauga Steelheads organization. The Midland, Ontario native has overseen the team to playoff appearances in every season since, along with an OHL Final appearance in 2019, and three Hamilton Spectator Trophy wins in 2019, 2020, and 2023.
On the international stage, Boyd was charged with the roster construction of the last two Canadian national junior teams, winning gold medals with both, and alongside Cameron at the Summer 2022 edition of the tournament.
Cameron, 65, led the 67’s to a record-setting campaign in 2022-23, just his second season with the team. The Charlottetown, PEI product coached Ottawa to a franchise-record 51 wins, and 107 points, surrendering a league-low 171 goals against. It was also a year of personal milestones for Cameron; earning his 400th OHL win, and also coaching in his 800th OHL game, moving him into fourth among active coaches in both categories.
For his efforts, Cameron earned the 2023 Brian Kilrea Award, as Canadian Hockey League Coach of the Year.
“I’m very pleased to be staying in Ottawa,” Cameron said. “I’m grateful to the organization for the opportunity, and I look forward to continuing to build upon the work we’ve done over the past two years.”
Prior to joining the 67’s, Cameron worked alongside Boyd with the Mississauga organization, before spending time in the American Hockey League, and the National Hockey League, including a tenure as Head Coach of the Ottawa Senators. Cameron was also Head Coach of the Vienna Capitals in Austria from 2018-2021.
“Dave is an elite coach, whose emphasis on education, and community service mesh perfectly with OSEG’s shared values of teamwork, integrity, passion, and innovation.” added Boyd. “We are very excited to continue building the 67’s organization with our highly capable staff, and supportive ownership.”
The extensions ensure the continuity of an experienced hockey operations group at the helm of the 67’s, one that also includes Associate General Manager and Director of Scouting, Jan Egert.
“Having Dave, James and Jan all signed through the 2025-2026 season further solidifies our hockey leadership group moving forward,” said 67’s President Adrian Sciarra. “The success of the team over the past several seasons was no accident, and much of the credit lies with these three hockey minds.”
The 67’s head out on the road, this weekend, beginning with a visit to the Windsor Spitfires on Thursday, October 26 at 7:05pm ET.
