67’s acquire Maple Leafs prospect Braeden Kressler
The Ottawa 67’s added some skill and competitiveness on Saturday, acquiring overage centreman Braeden Kressler from the Flint Firebirds.
Kressler, North Bay’s third-round pick in 2024 and London’s 10th round pick in 2024 were dealt to Flint in exchange for five picks including Flint’s third-round in 2024, Kitchener’s third-round in 2024, Ottawa’s ninth-round in 2025, Sault Ste. Marie’s second-round in 2026 and London’s third-round in 2027.
Kressler, who hails from Kitchener, Ont., had recorded 37 points (15-22–37) through 33 games for the Firebirds this season.
“Braeden is a top performing player in our league, who will fit in well with our group at the centre position,” said 67’s general manager James Boyd. “His game adds speed, skill, and determination to our lineup.”
Originally Flint’s second-round (28th overall) pick in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection, Kressler has played in 154 career regular season games with the Firebirds, producing 123 points (54-69–123). He helped Flint reach the Western Conference Championship Series in the 2022 OHL Playoffs, recording 10 points (6-4–10) in 17 postseason contests.
Undrafted to the NHL, the Toronto Maple Leafs signed Kressler to an entry-level NHL contract on Oct. 1st, 2021.
“Braeden has been a big part of our dressing room and the franchise ever since he arrived here nearly five years ago,” Firebirds general manager Dave McParlan said. “We would like to thank him for what he has given to the organization, he’ll always be a Firebird in our eyes.”
The 67’s fell to the Kingston Frontenacs by a score of 4-3 in overtime on Saturday. They return to the ice sporting a record of 18-15-3-0 next Friday when they visit the Brantford Bulldogs.
