Petes to Raise Chris Pronger Banner to PMC Rafters

The Peterborough Petes are extremely excited to announce that they will raise a banner in honour of alumnus Chris Pronger prior to the game on Sunday, November 2 at 2:05pm against the Barrie Colts. Joining him at the game will be his wife Lauren; children Jack, George, and Lilah; parents Jim and Eila; along with former teammates, coaches, staff, and other invited guests who played a key role in Chris’ life on and off the ice.
Chris will join the likes of Scotty Bowman, Mickey Redmond, Roger Neilson, Bob Gainey, Dick Todd, Larry Murphy, and Steve Yzerman in the Peterborough Memorial Centre rafters.
He will attend a private reception with current Petes players, 1992-1993 Petes alumni, and hockey staff on Saturday evening. On Sunday, Chris will be welcomed to the ice where fans will enjoy a recap of his hockey career followed by a presentation and the raising of his banner to the Peterborough Memorial Centre rafters.
“I spent two fantastic years in Peterborough, and want to thank the Petes and former staff, players, and executives for this great honour,” noted Chris. “I consider it to be one of the best moments in my hockey career to be amongst the names honoured by the Petes, and I’m looking forward to the day that my banner gets raised.”
The Dryden, Ontario native was selected by the Petes in the sixth round of the 1991 OHL Priority Selection. The defenceman registered 54 goals, 140 assists, 194 points, and 277 penalty minutes in 155 regular season and playoff games played with the Petes before being taken second overall in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft by the Hartford Whalers. He was awarded the Max Kaminsky Trophy (OHL Top Defenceman), CHL Plus/Minus Award, and CHL Best Defenceman Award, and was named an OHL First Team All-Star.
Chris went on to play 1340 total games in the NHL between the Whalers, St. Louis Blues, Edmonton Oilers, Anaheim Ducks, and Philadelphia Flyers, scoring 183 goals, 636 assists, 819 points along with 1916 penalty minutes. He won the 2007 Stanley Cup with the Ducks, the Hart and Norris Trophies in 2000, was named to six NHL First All-Star teams, and had tremendous success internationally, winning gold medals as part of Team Canada at the 1993 World Junior Championship, 1997 World Championship, and 2002 and 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
