Bulldogs add Flyers first round pick Jett Luchanko in trade with Storm
The Guelph Storm and Brantford Bulldogs announced Monday morning that they have completed a trade involving Storm captain Jett Luchanko, who has been dealt to the Bulldogs in exchange for forward Layne Gallacher, along with four draft picks:
- 2027 2nd Round Pick (Kitchener)
- 2028 2nd Round Pick (Sudbury)
- 2029 3rd Round Pick (Brantford)
- 2029 5th Round Pick (Brampton)
The move comes just a few days after the Storm were officially announced as the 2027 Memorial Cup hosts, adding further significance to the club’s roster decisions as they prepare for the future.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs continue to make headlines with aggressive roster building this season. The acquisition of Luchanko is the latest in a series of big moves designed to bolster their current lineup.
Brantford Acquires: Jett Luchanko
Luchanko, a London native, was originally selected 12th overall in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection by Guelph. Over his OHL career, he has tallied 161 points in 171 games, including 147 points over his last 125 contests. His standout 2023-24 season (20-54–74) earned him a first-round selection (13th overall) by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. Named captain of the Storm in 2024-25, he added 46 points in 56 games and has already posted 17 points (2-15–17) in 11 games this season.
Luchanko has also gained NHL experience with the Flyers, appearing in four games to start each of the past two seasons, while contributing with the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Internationally, he has represented Canada at the U17, U18, and World Junior levels, winning silver at the World U17 Hockey Challenge and gold at the U18 World Championships.
“We are incredibly excited to acquire Jett Luchanko,” said Bulldogs General Manager Spencer Hyman. “Jett brings elite speed, is outstanding in the dots, and is an exceptional playmaker. He immediately makes our hockey club better, and we’re thrilled to welcome Jett and his family to Brantford.”
Guelph Acquires: Layne Gallacher and Draft Picks
Gallacher, a 6’1”, 180-pound centreman from Brooklin, Ontario, was selected in the fourth round of the 2024 OHL Priority Selection by Brantford. The 2008-born forward has recorded 12 points (5-7–12) and a +9 rating in 21 games this season. Prior to joining the Bulldogs, Gallacher starred with the Ajax/Pickering Raiders U18 AAA program, posting 46 points in 26 games. In his OHL draft season, he amassed 130 points in 105 games and was recognized by NHL Central Scouting on the Preliminary Players to Watch List for the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
“Layne has had an excellent start to his season and brings a combination of size, skill, competitiveness and skating ability to our club now and in the future,” said Storm General Manager George Burnett. “Unfortunately, Layne is currently dealing with an injury, but we anticipate him returning to our lineup early in the new year.”
