OHL mourns the loss of Kyle Craner
The Ontario Hockey League and the Sarnia Sting organization are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Kyle Craner, who lost his battle with brain cancer on the morning of Friday, September 12th at the age of 33.
The club’s Director of Scouting Operations, Kyle was more than a valued scout for the Sting Hockey Club, he was a cherished friend, mentor and a shining example of the spirit and passion that drives our game. His dedication to the Sarnia Sting, his sharp eye for talent, his unquestionable work ethic, his quick sense of humor, and most of all, his kindness, touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
From the rinks he scouted to the families and players he encouraged, Kyle’s influence extended well beyond hockey. He embodied loyalty, integrity, and joy, leaving behind a lasting legacy with the Sting organization and within the hockey community.
In his memory, the Sting held a moment of silence prior to puck drop on Friday. Kyle’s kindness and passion will never be forgotten. He will forever be a part of the Sting family.
Our hearts are with Kyle’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.

Craner’s Cause: Carrying Forward His Legacy
In Kyle’s honor, the Sting are proud to continue the initiative he helped inspire: Craner’s Cause.
Through this program, the Sarnia Sting will donate $10 for every Sting goal scored during the 2025–26 OHL regular season to Craner’s Cause in support of the Bluewater Health Cancer Clinic redevelopment project. Fans and community members are encouraged to join us by matching or contributing what they can as we pursue a goal of raising $10,000 together.
The redevelopment will expand and modernize patient care facilities, improve access to treatment, and strengthen emotional and psychological support services for families facing cancer across Sarnia-Lambton ensuring others battling like Kyle receive the care they deserve.
Kyle will forever be a part of the Sarnia Sting family. His story will continue to inspire us, and through Craner’s Cause, his legacy will continue to make a difference.
Rest in peace, Kyle. You will never be forgotten.
