Canada wins gold at ISBHF U20 Ball Hockey Worlds with help from OHL pair
Canada is golden once again, and two OHL names played a key role in the triumph. Blair Scott of the Niagara IceDogs and OHL alumnus Kyle Morey helped Canada clinch its second-straight gold medal at the 2025 ISBHF U20 Ball Hockey World Championship in Poprad, Slovakia.
The Canucks built a commanding 7-1 lead before the Czechs stormed back to force extra time. Just seven seconds into the overtime period, Andy Knight completed his hat trick, sealing the 8-7 win and sending Canadian gloves and sticks flying in celebration.
Morey stood out in the gold medal game, recording a goal and two assists. He finished the tournament with five points (3-2–5) in as many games.
The former Kitchener Ranger (2022-24) and Barrie Colt (2023-24) posted 29 points (7-22–29) across 118 OHL regular-season games. Last season, Morey spent time with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in the QMJHL before heading to the St. Marys Lincolns of the GOJHL, where he exploded for 19 points (5-14–19) and added 13 more (9-4–13) during a deep playoff run to the Western Conference Championship Final. He was recently acquired by the Elmira Sugar Kings and is set to suit up for them this coming fall.
Blair Scott wrapped up his 2024-25 season with the Niagara IceDogs, having also played for Kitchener and Barrie during his OHL career. The steady defenceman tallied 13 points (2G–11A) and amassed 92 penalty minutes in 67 regular-season games this past year. He contributed three assists over five games for Team Canada during their ISBHF championship run.
In total, five Canadian Hockey League players helped Canada capture gold. Alongside Morey and Scott, the roster featured QMJHL Champion Matteo Rotondi (Drummondville Voltigeurs), and WHLers Justice Christensen (Prince Albert Raiders) and Rylan Pearce (Everett Silvertips).
