Martone scores OT winner as Eastern Conference wins inaugural Connor McDavid OHL Top Prospects Game 5-4
The Eastern and Western Conferences faced off on Wednesday night, battling for conference supremacy in the inaugural Connor McDavid OHL Top Prospects Game, held at the Brantford Civic Centre.
The Eastern Conference emerged victorious in a thrilling 5-4 overtime win, clinching the title in a hard-fought battle of the league’s best.
Featuring the OHL’s top 2025 NHL Draft-eligible players alongside two overage stars from each conference, the game showcased some of North America’s premier talent in front of a sold-out crowd.
Luca Romano (Kitchener Rangers) opened the scoring, but Shamar Moses (North Bay Battalion) quickly responded to tie it at one. Brady Martin regained the lead for Team West before Lirim Amidovski (North Bay Battalion) leveled the score again. Jack Nesbitt’s (Windsor Spitfires) late-period goal gave Team West a 3-2 advantage heading into the first intermission.

Owen Griffin (Oshawa Generals) tied the game less than two minutes into the second period, but Adrian Misaljevic (Kitchener Rangers) restored Team West’s lead, sending them into the final frame with a 4-3 edge.

Xander Velliaris (Saginaw Spirit) brought the East back into contention with a third-period goal, forcing overtime. In the extra frame, Porter Martone (Brampton Steelheads) played the hero, scoring the game-winning goal off a set-up from Brantford’s Jake O’Brien to crown the Eastern Conference as the inaugural champions.

Cameron Reid (Kitchener Rangers) and O’Brien (Brantford Bulldogs) were named the Most Valuable Player for their respective teams, each tallying three assists in the night’s electric performance.
