2012 OHL Playoffs: Round 2 Underway
The second round of the 2012 OHL Playoffs began on Friday night with all four Conference Semi-Final games:
Kitchener Rangers 2 vs. Plymouth Whalers 0
Anaheim Ducks prospect John Gibson made 40 saves to earn his first career playoff shutout as the third seeded Kitchener Rangers grabbed a big Game 1 victory on the road against the second seeded Plymouth Whalers.
Tobias Rieder scored his eighth goal of the playoffs late in the second period which held as the game-winner, while Ben Thomson added a goal midway through the third period for the Rangers in the win.
Niagara IceDogs 2 vs. Brampton Battalion 1 OT
David Pacan scored at 13:21 of the extra frame to lead the top ranked Niagara IceDogs to a 2-1 Game 1 overtime win over the fourth ranked Brampton Battalion.
Ryan Strome netted his sixth of the playoffs late in the first period for the IceDogs, while Marcus McIvor got his second of the playoffs late in the second period for the Troops.
London Knights 5 vs. Saginaw Spirit 2
Austin Watson led the top ranked London Knights to a 5-2 win over the fifth seeded Saginaw Spirit with two goals and one assist as first star of the Game 1 win.
Greg McKegg (1G, 1A), and Seth Griffith (2A) also had mutli-point games for the Knights, with Garret Ross tallying two assists for the Spirit.
Ottawa 67’s 5 vs. Barrie Colts 1
Shane Prince scored two goals and an assist for the second ranked Ottawa 67’s as first star of a 5-1 Game 1 win over the third place Barrie Colts in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals live on Sportsnet.
Tyler Graovac added a goal and two assists for the home team while Jake Cardwell picked up three assists. Winnipeg Jets prospect Mark Scheifele scored the lone goal for the Colts.
All four matchups resume on Sunday with both Eastern Conference games starting at 2pm, and both Western Conference tilts at 7pm.
