14 OHL’ers Named to Home Hardware CHL Top Prospects Game Roster
The NHL and CHL held a media conference in Kitchener today to announce the 40 players who will play in the 2003 Home Hardware Top Prospects game at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium on Wednesday January 22, 2003.
The roster included 14 OHL players, including Oshawa Generals centre Nathan Horton, the OHL’s top rated prospect for next June’s NHL Entry Draft in the preliminary NHL Central Scouting rankings. The draft will be held June 21 and 22 in Nashville.
Kitchener Rangers centre Michael Richards (pictured) was also named to the roster, which includes 10 OHL forwards and four OHL defencemen.
“I’m really excited to play in this game along with 40 of the top players in the CHL for the upcoming draft,” Richards said at the news conference. “There is going to be so much talent in this game and I’m looking forward to seeing how I fare. It will be a great experience for me as a hockey player.”
The players were selected by a poll of NHL Central Scotuing and the NHL team scouts conducted by the NHL. Team Canada goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (QMJHL) was one of four goaltenders selected.
The teams will be coached once again by Hockey Night in Canada personality Don Cherry and Oshawa Generals alumni and Hockey Hall of Famer Bobby Orr, who return to the benches after a one year absence.
Tickets for the game are $20 and $18 and they are now on sale at the Memorial Auditorium box office. In addition, the players will participate in a shootout and 3 on 3 challenge at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium on Tuesday, January 21 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for the January 21 event are $5.00 and they are also available at the Memorial Auditorium Box Office.
