Wolves Under Attack
The Wolves opened up their weekend home stand Friday night with a hard fought 6-4 loss to the hands of the 6th ranked team in the nation, the Owen Sound Attack. Cameron Brace would lead the attack for Owen Sound as he potted two shorthanded goals on the evening. In a losing effort, Nathan Pancel stepped up and carried the Wolves offense in a big way. Pancel would finish the evening with three goals en route to being named the games 1st star. Mathew Campagna would have a big game of his own posting three assists.
KYLE HOPE would get the visitors on the board early in the first frame as he fired the puck past Wolves’ net minder JOEL VIENNEAU only 3:21 into the period. The Wolves however would respond justover four minutes later as MICHAEL KANTOR banged home a loose puck that would trickle past Attack net minder JORDAN BINNINGTON. Owen Sound would go on to restore their slim one goal lead as JAKE DOTCHIN found the back of the Wolves net with 9:37 to play in the period. The Attack would head into the break leading the Wolves by a score of 2 to 1. The first frame saw Owen Sound outshoot the Wolves by a 17 to 10 margin.
The Wolves would take full advantage of a DANIEL ZWEEP penalty midway through the second frame as NATHAN PANCEL would bang home a rebound to tie the game up at two. PANCEL would go on to score his second of the frame minutes later as he pulled off a dazzling move en route to beating BINNINGTON high on the blocker side. ZACK NASTIUK would score with just over five minutes remaining in the period to send the teams back to their rooms tied up at three. The Wolves held the edge in shots in the period by a 17 to 10 margin.
It did not take long for Owen Sound to take the lead in the third, as CAMERON BRACE would score a short-handed breakaway goal 2:12 into the period. PANCEL would continue to lead the Wolves charge in this high scoring affair, as he would erase the Wolves one goal deficit on the power play at the 7:14 mark of the frame. The seesaw battle would continue, as the Attack would take their fourth lead of the evening on a HOLDEN COOK goal with 6:09 remaining in the third. The goal would mark the end of JOEL VIENNEAU’S night, as TAYLOR DUPUIS would come on in relief for the remainder of the game. The Attack would seal the deal with 1:01 remaining in the frame, as CAMERON BRACE would score his second shorthanded goal of the evening. The Wolves outshot the Attack in the third by 15 to 7.
The Wolves will wrap up their weekend home stand on Sunday afternoon when they play host to CONNOR MCDAVID and the Erie Otters. The game will give Wolves fans their first look at the rookie sensation who was drafted 1st Overall by the Otters after being granted “exceptional status” by Hockey Canada as a 15 year old. The Toronto native is by far one of the most skilled forwards to ‘ever’ play in the Ontario Hockey League and he will simply ‘wow’ you with his offensive plays, speed and smarts. MCDAVID has been drawing comparisons to SIDNEY CROSBY at the same age andleads all rookies in scoring having posted 32 points in only 26 games to date this season.
