Wolves Sweep!
The Sudbury Wolves made it 3 wins in a row with a 6-4 victory over the 67’s in the nation’s capital on Sunday afternoon. JOSH LEIVO continued his torrid scoring of late with a hat trick including the game winner at the mid-way mark of the third period. The Barrie native scored 6 goals in three road games to make the Toronto Maple Leafs’ prospect a leading contender for OHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK.
MATHEW CAMPAGNA continued his hot play as well by opening the scoring in the game. It was the Mississauga’s native’s 3rd goal in three road games. LEIVO was named the game’s 1st star while CAMPAGNA was named as the 3rd star of the contest.
Ottawa natives NATHAN PANCEL, SAM SCHUTT, NICK BAPTISTE and EVAN DE HAAN all performed well for the Wolves in front of hometown friends and family. PANCEL had an assist and a fight, SCHUTT had a goal and a fight while BAPTISTE picked up an assist.
The Wolves led 2-1 after one period of play and 4-3 after the second period. Ottawa tied the game early in the third period before Leivo undressed a 67’s defenceman with a great inside move and then roofed the puck on 67’s goaltender JACOB BLAIR. Overage forward MICHAEL KANTOR iced the win with a empty-netter while the Wolves were defending a Ottawa power play.
The Wolves outshot the 67’s 36-34. Ottawa was 1 for 5 on the power play while the Wolves were 1 for 4. Veteran goaltender JOEL VIENNEAU recorded the win in goal for the Wolves.
The Wolves will now enjoy some Thanksgiving turkey with their families before returning for a home date with the Saginaw Spirit on Friday, Oct. 12th. The Wolves will be looking to avenge a 5-0 whitewash that the Spirit handed them two weeks ago in Saginaw. The Spirit line-up includes former Wolf Frank Schumacher.
