Wolves ‘Sting’ Back
The Sudbury Wolves and Sarnia Sting played the back end of a home and home series which began on Monday, with the Sting defeating the Wolves in Sarnia. The series ended at the Sudbury Arena on Friday night and the Wolves offense exploded and the Pack went on to win the contest by a final score of 7 – 1.
The Wolves came out firing on all cylinders in the first period and seemed to get stymied by the play of Sting netminder Brandon Hope, who made point blank saves to keep the Pack of the board. The Wolves finally got one passed him at the 19:00 minute mark of the operning frame with ERIC O’DELL (MICHAEL SGARBOSSA, ANDREY KUCHIN) roofing one on the powerplay.
The Wolves opened the lead the 2 – 0 lead early in the second period on goal from BRODY SILK (CHARLIE DODERO, KUCHIN). The Sting responded with a goal of their own by Brandon Francisco, cutting the Wolves lead to 2 – 1. Just after the midway point, the Wolves added a couple of goals to take a 4 – 1 lead into the second intermission. Scoring for the Pack were ALEX RACINO (JOSH LEIVO, O’DELL) and KUCHIN (SGARBOSSA, JOSH MCFADDEN).
In the third period, the Wolves continued their offensive ways netting 3 unanswered goals by SGARBOSSA (KUCHIN, RACINO), and two from O’DELL (LEIVO, FRANK CORRADO), (SGARBOSSA, KUCHIN), who completed the natural hatrick with another powerplay marker to lead the Wolves to the 7 – 1 victory.
ALAIN VALIQUETTE had the start in goal and was solid in making 21 saves for the win, while counterpart Brandon Hope was much busier and finished with 39 saves for the loss.
NOTES: The game’s three stars were ANDREY KUCHIN (1), ERIC O’DELL (2), ALEX RACINO (3)…..The announced paid attendance was 3944……the winner of the 50/50 was Norman Renaud. KUCHIN finished the night with 5 points (1 goal and 4 assists).
The Wolves will return to action on Sunday, February 27, 2011 with a matinee showdown with the visiting Windsor Spitfires. Game time is 2:00pm and there a still good seats available.
