Wolves Set for Draft Day
The Sudbury Wolves management team and scouting staff are ready to go for the 2012 OHL Priority Selection presented by State Farm® to be held on Saturday, April 7th starting at 9 a.m. The Sudbury Wolves will have 15 draft selections including multiple picks in the 3rd and 14th rounds.
“Our scouting staff has worked very hard this season preparing for this important draft” notes Wolves’ GM Blaine Smith. “We feel we have positioned ourselves with the appropriate draft selections needed to continue our process of building a contending team.”
Included in the preparation for the draft is having the Wolves’ scouting staff contact over 150 kids and interview them over the telephone. Smith has also visited a number of the top prospects personally in an effort to get to know the players better and insure that they will be a good fit for the Sudbury Wolves.
“The feedback has been very positive from the players” notes Smith. “The word is out that Sudbury is a good organization and a good destination point for young players to receive quality coaching and development, achieve their educational goals and live with great families that take care of their needs.”
The Wolves will be selecting 14th overall in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection, followed by the 54th and 60th picks in the 3rd round.
“Having three draft selections in the first three rounds of the draft is important to continue the process of building our team through the draft” notes Smith.
The Wolves have enjoyed some very successful drafts in the last three years including 1st rounders: JUSTIN SEFTON, MATHEW CAMPAGNA and NICK BAPTISTE. The Wolves have also had some very successful 2nd round draft selections in the last three years including: FRANK CORRADO, BRODY SILK, SAM SCHUTT, JACOB HARRIS and EVAN DeHAAN.
In addition to 15 potential returning players, the Wolves will be looking to add two new European import players along with rookie players from previous years’ drafts. Leading the way are defencemen TYLER PRONG, EVAN DeHAAN and forward DANNY DESROSCHERS.
“We have a very solid nucleus of returning veterans along with a good number of rookie prospects that are eager to be a part of the team next season” notes Smith. “By adding skilled players from this year’s OHL draft, we will continue to move forward in building a winning team for Sudbury.”
