Wolves Outplay Colts
The Wolves opened up their grueling weekend stretch that sees them play 3 games in 3 days tonight with a hard fought win against the red-hot Barrie Colts, defeating them 6-4.
The Wolves’ attack in tonight’s game was led by the strong play of NICK BAPTISTE and BRODY SILK. BAPTISTE was a dominant force at both ends of the ice in tonight’s game scoring 1 goal and adding 1 assist while making several key defensive plays in the game. His efforts earned him first star honours. SILK posted 1 goal and 1 assist for the home team as he continues his hot play as of late, earning the game’s second star award.
The Wolves came flying out of the gate in the first and got out to an early 1-0 lead on the powerplay when NICK BAPTISTE tipped home his second of the season on a CHARLIE DODERO point shot. The Wolves’ strong first period efforts saw them dominate the shot clock as they held the edge in shots by a 13-3 margin after one. Colts net minder MATHIAS NIEDERBERGER held the fort down in net in the first keeping the deficit at one heading into the break.
It didn’t take long for the Colts to pull even in the second, as TYSON FAWCETT scored a powerplay goal one minute into the second frame. Halfway through the second period BRODY SILK would tip home an EVAN de HAAN point shot to restore the Wolves one goal lead. The goal marked SILK’S 4th is as many contest. The Colts deadly powerplay would bail them out once again with 1:01 remaining in the second when sophomore defenceman AARON EKBLAD fired a rocket that beat JOEL VIENNEAU upstairs to tie the game up at 2. Despite being deadlocked in a 2-2 tie after two the Wolves once again carried the play in the second outshooting the Colts 17-9.
The third period was a battle of the offenses as 6 goals were put on the board in the frame. The Wolves finally got to MATTIAS NEIDERBERGER in the third posting three unanswered goals in the first half of the period by NATHAN PANCEL, DOMINIK KAHUN, and DANNY DESROCHERS. DESROCHERS goal marked his first in the Ontario Hockey League. The game seemed to be all but over before Colts defenceman RYAN O’CONNOR and forward ERIC BRADFORD scored back to back goals eleven seconds apart in the third frame to bring the Colts within one. CHARLIE DODERO would be the hero as he sealed the deal when he buried a point shot at the 16:30 mark of the third. The Wolves held the edge in shots in the third by a 13-6 margin.
The Wolves will be back in action on Saturday at home when they face-off against the Ottawa 67’s. The Wolves will be looking to clinch the season series between these two teams tomorrow night as they defeated the 67’s back on October 7th in Ottawa by a score of 6-4. JOSH LEIVO will be looking to repeat his performance from the Wolves last matchup against the 67’s, as he had the hot-hand, scoring a hat trick. The 67’s enter the game posting 3.92 goals per game on average, which ranks them first in this category among Eastern Conference teams. A Remembrance Day celebration will take place prior to puck drop. Game time is 7:05. There are still greats seats available for this can’t miss contest.
