Wolves Name New Team Captains
The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announce that MICHAEL KANTOR has been named as the team’s new captain for the remainder of the 2012-13 season. KANTOR, 20, is in his fourth and final year of OHL eligibility and leads by example on and off the ice. KANTOR takes over the reins from former Wolves captain FRANK CORRADO who was traded to the Kitchener Rangers earlier this week.
KANTOR 6’0” 197 lbs. right shot forward was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Saginaw Spirit in the 2009-2010 season. KANTOR’S strength and unprecedented work ethic earned him an invite to the L.A Kings training camp back in 2011. In 171 OHL career OHL games the native of Lake Forest, Illinois has complied 32 goals, 46 assists for 78 points and 370 minutes in penalties.
Captain KANTOR will also be making his return to the Wolves lineup tonight against the Mississauga Steelheads after he received a facial injury back on December 2nd.
Joining Kantor as Alternate Captains are: Charlie Dodero, Brody Silk, Mathew Campagna and Nathan Pancel. Dodero, 20, will be counted on to lead and support the young defensive unit that the Sudbury Wolves will move forward with. Dodero is a native of Chicago, Illinois and will also take on more of an offensive role with the club as a top-pairing defenceman.
Brody Silk and Mathew Campagna have worn ‘A’s already this season and they will be joined by Nathan Pancel who has also developed into a team leader with his performance both on and off the ice. Silk and Campagna are currently in their third season with the Wolves while Pancel is completing his second year with the Club. Campagna, the Wolves’ 2010 1st round draft selection is presently leading the team in scoring and owns the league’s longest scoring streak at 16 games. Campagna set a 41 year franchise record last week with assists in 15 straight games.
The newly-named Team Captains will be wearing their respective letters tonight on their jerseys when they host the Mississauga Steelheads at the Sudbury Arena at 7:35.
