Wolves Look to Friday Rematch
The Sudbury Wolves made their final visit to the Brampton Powerade Centre on Sunday afternoon and fell 4-1 to the Battalion. With the win, the Battalion moved to within one point of the 4th place Wolves in the Eastern Conference standings. The Battalion also take a 4-3 lead in the season series between the two teams and sets-up things well for a rematch on Friday, Feb. 8th when the Wolves host the Battalion for the final time this season in Sudbury.
The Wolves power play was ineffective as the Wolves went 0 for 6 with the man advantage. Meanwhile Brampton finished the game at 1 for 6 on the power play. The Wolves had several good scoring chances including a shorthanded breakaway by leading scorer MATHEW CAMPAGNA, but it was DOMINIK KUBALIK with the only goal of the game in the 3rd period to break the Battalion’s shut-out. DOMINIK KAHUN and KEVIN RAINE assisted on the goal.
FRANKY PALAZZESE was solid in net for the Wolves in stopping 24 of 28 shots that he faced. The Wolves were only able to muster 19 shots on goal against the defensive-minded Battalion. The loss also took its toll physically on the Wolves as both overage players MICHAEL KANTOR and CHARLIE DODERO were lost to the Wolves after suffering first period injuries. KANTOR returned wearing a visor while DODERO suffered a lower body injury. BRODY SILK was also injured after blocking a slapshot and was able to return later in the contest.
The Wolves finished the 3-game road trip with two wins and four points and now sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, four points behind 3rd place Oshawa Generals. The Wolves will now play three consecutive home games beginning this Friday night against the Battalion and Saturday night against the Mississauga Steelheads. Tickets for both home games are now on sale at the arena ticket office.
