Wolves Fall to Hounds
The Sudbury Wolves were at home Saturday evening to host their northern rivals, the SOO Greyhounds. The Wolves were wrapping up their third game in as many nights after travelling to Barrie Thursday evening to play the Colts and hosting the Knights on Friday. Unable to bury their chances against the tough Hounds, the Wolves were shutout by a final of 3-0.
After a scoreless first period, the Greyhounds opened the scoring halfway through the second period on a goal from Sergey Tolchinsky. The Hounds added to their lead before the period would come to a close on a goal by Darnell Nurse. The visitors added one more insurance marker in the dying minutes of the third on an empty net goal to win the contest by a final score of 3-0.
Both teams had 4 powerplay opportunities, however, neither side was able to take advantage.
Hounds’ goaltender Matt Murray made 38 saves for the shutout victory, while Wolves goaltender Franky Palazzese made 32 saves.
The Wolves will now rest up this weekend, before hitting the road for 3 away games next weekend. Fans can follow the Wolves on the road by tuning into KFM 95.5 with Stew Kernan and Mike Poirier.
