Wolves Fall in Shootout

The Sudbury Wolves hosted the Peterborough Petes Saturday night for the second game of their double header weekend and third game in as many days. This was the Pete’s first visit to the Nickel City this season. Despite a strong first and second period by the Pack, the Wolves could not hold onto the lead in the third as the Petes would tie it up to head to a shootout.

The Wolves would take the lead early in the first frame as DANNY DESROCHERS would score his 3^rd goal of the season 1:22 into the period. MACKENZIE BRAID and NATHAN CULL would pick up the assists. BRAID had a very strong showing as he dressed for his first game coming back from a serious injury that had him out for six-weeks. BRAID was rewarded by being named the DICKIES HARDEST WORKER OF THE GAME. JONATAN TANUS of the Petes would then score to tie the game up at one 10 minutes later. Wolves’ Captain FRANK CORRADO would score a powerplay marker 6 minutes later to give the Wolves a 2-1 lead heading to the break. Shots on goal in the first period were 16 shots for the Wolves and 5 for the Petes.

It was much of the same story in the second period. DOMINIK KUBALIK and NICK BAPTISTE would notch goals for the home team while Petes’ Assistant Captain, ALAN QUINE would score one for the Petes. The Wolves would head to the dressing room with a 4-2 lead. Shots on goal during the second frame were 15 to 9 for the Petes.

It would be all Peterborough in the third as they would score two goals 3 minutes apart to tie up the game. BRETT FINLAY would score both goals for the Petes.

Overtime would solve nothing, so the two teams would head to a shootout that would last 8 rounds. For the Wolves, MATHEW CAMPAGNA would score on a beauty deke to put the puck past Petes goaltender, ANDREW D’AGOSTINI. FRANK CORRADO would score in the 6^th round going top right. BRETT FINDLAY and JONATAN TANUS also scored for the Petes before ERIC CORNEL would put this game to rest.

The Wolves are back at home next Friday night when they host the Plymouth Whalers. This is Plymouth’s only visit to the Nickel City this season. This game is sponsored by RHP and Game time is 7:35pm.
