Wolves Fall Flat in Barrie
The Sudbury Wolves travelled to Barrie on Thursday to take on divisional rivals, the Barrie Colts. Generally, the meetings between these clubs are close, physical games but the Barrie Colts took early control of the game and never let go – winning the contest by a final score of 7 – 0.
The Colts jumped on the board early scoring their first goal at the 13 seconds mark of the opening frame. They added three more by the end of the period to take a dominating 4 – 0 lead.
In the second period, the Colts found the back of the net on two powerplay opportunities and added another even strength to lead 7 – 0 after two periods of play – despite the Wolves outshooting the Colts 20 – 13 in the frame.
Neither team made good on their opportunities in the third period as the Colts went on to win the contest by a final score of 7 – 0. The Wolves just could not get anything going.
JOEL VIENNEAU was in goal for the entire game and made 20 saves. Matias Niederberger earned the shutout and win with 29 saves.
The Wolves will have to rebound quickly from the outing as they host the point-seeking BELLEVILLE BULLS at the Sudbury Arena on Friday night. Game time is 7:35pm.
