Wolves Earn Point in St. Kitts
The Sudbury Wolves picked-up another point on the road against the Niagara IceDogs on Saturday night as the Wolves battled back from a 2-0 deficit in the third period only to lose in overtime to the top-ranked IceDogs by a score of 3-2.
The Wolves gave the IceDogs no less than eight power play opportunities including a 5 on 3 situation but the Wolves’ penalty killing was at the top of their game as they stopped the IceDogs on all eight opportunities.
Meanwhile the Wolves were awarded only two power plays in the entire contest. The Wolves were 1 for 2 on the power play as JOSH LEIVO scored to get the Wolves on the board with less than six minutes remaining on the clock. MACKENZIE BRAID tied the game less than a minute later on a rebound where the 19 year old veteran fired a beauty in the top corner of the net to tie the contest.
The Wolves bench became incensed when JACOB HARRIS was checked heavily into the boards in front of the official and no penalty was called with less than three minutes remaining in the game. As the groggy 17 year old was skating to the bench in disbelief, the official assessed him an unsportsmanlike penalty with just over two minutes remaining in the game.
The highly controversial call went uncontested as the Wolves were able to kill off the power play and force overtime. JOEL VIENNEAU was steady in goal for the Wolves but he couldn’t stop MITCHELL THEORET from scoring in overtime and giving the IceDogs the win with just over two minutes remaining in the game.
The IceDogs outshot the Wolves 37-30 in the contest but the point gives the Wolves a 2-0-2 record in their last four games for a total of six points. The
Wolves will now prepare for their final pre-Christmas break game on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm when they play the Steelheads in Mississauga. BRODY SILK will make his return to the Wolves line-up after sitting-out the last 8 games due to league suspension.
