Wolves to Face Majors
The underdog Sudbury Wolves will be one of only eight teams remaining to challenge for the OHL CHAMPIONSHIP by virtue of their 4-0 series victory over the favoured OTTAWA 67’s. The Wolves wrapped-up the series with a big 5-3 victory over the 67’s in the nation’s capital Thursday night.
The Wolves road the offensive output of veteran forward MICHAEL SGARBOSSA who leads all OHL scorers in play-off scoring with 12 points in four games. Rookie forward JOSH LEIVO is enjoying a break-out post-season. The 17-year-old native of Innisfil, Ontario has recorded 10 points with 4 goals and 6 assists. Russian forward ANDREY KUCHIN leads the Wolves in goals with five. Veteran goaltender ALAIN VALIQUETTE back-stopped the Wolves to their first play-off series win since 2007.
The road will get even tougher now as they will face the top team in the OHL – the MISSISSAUGA ST. MICHAEL’S MAJORS. The MAJORS swept their opening round series with the BELLEVILLE BULLS and held the Bulls to just one goal in four games. San Jose Sharks’ prospect J.P. ANDERSON recorded three shut-outs for the MAJORS in the opening round series. The MAJORS have already punched their ticket to the 2011 MEMORIAL CUP as the host team.
The Wolves will open the Eastern Conference semi-final series on the road and will return home for the second game of the series. Dates and times will be announced by the OHL by Monday.
