V for Victory
Wolves’ rookie netminder JOEL VIENNEAU recorded his first OHL victory on Sunday in Guelph when the Wolves defeated the Storm 6-3. The 6’3” goaltender from Heart, Ontario had a solid weekend including a 4-3 loss in Kitchener on Friday night. It was the first game action that Vienneau had seen in six weeks after recovering from a long-term injury. VIENNEAU’s goals against average now sits at 3.43 and has a save percentage of .884. His win-loss records stands at 1 & 1.
VIENNEAU was originally drafted by the Storm in the 2008 OHL draft. Joel decided to play tier II for Abitibi Eskimos and then the Kingston Voyageurs before applying his talent in the USHL with the Muskegon Lumberjacks last season. The Wolves acquired Vienneau’s rights in the Maggio trade with Guelph in the hopes that the big goaltender may change his mind and pursue an OHL scholarship instead. The Wolves gave-up a conditional 9th round pick in return for Vienneau’s decision to report to the Wolves.
“Joel played well for us in both contests” noted Wolves’ head coach Trent Cull. “With Mattsson’s injury status, it was great for Joel to step-in and play as well as he did for us.”
“It was great to get that first win under my belt” notes Vienneau. “I really like it here in Sudbury. We have a good team and the guys did a great job in front of me limiting their shots to only 25. I’m looking forward to staying healthy and helping this team win as much as we can.”
VIENNEAU and his teammates will play in Barrie on Thursday before returning home on Friday to host the MISSISSAUGA MAJORS at 7:35. The Wolves will wrap-up the weekend with a home game on Sunday at 2:00 pm against the BRAMPTON BATTALION. It will be a big week for the Wolves as they take-on 3 Central Division rivals in four days.
