The Sudbury Wolves picked-up five of a possible six points on the weekend and have now earned 9 points in their last 5 games. The Wolves have the second-best win-loss record in the Eastern Conference over the past 10 games with 6 wins, 3 losses and 1 shoot-out loss. Niagara has the best record in the Eastern Conference at 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.
The weekend began with a 3-2 victory on home ice over the Barrie Colts. The Wolves travelled to Niagara had despite leading 4-2 late in the third period, the Wolves had to settle for a point in a 5-4 shoot-out loss at the hands of the IceDogs — who are one of the hottest teams in the OHL.
On Sunday, the Wolves marched into Brampton and scored a 3-1 victory over their Central Division nemesis. Brampton had won five of the six games played between the two teams this season. MICHAEL SGARBOSSA scored the game winner for Sudbury. The 18-year-old forward now has 16 goals in 15 games since joining the Wolves. The Campbellville, Ontario native has now scored 23 goals this season – a personal career high.
The Wolves top line of MICHAEL LOMAS, MARCUS FOLIGNO and MICHAEL SGARBOSSA scored five of the team’s ten goals on the weekend. SGARBOSSA led the way with three goals and two assists for five points. FOLIGNO and LOMAS had a goal and three assists each. MICHAEL MACDONALD, GREG JAMBROSICH, FRANK SCHUMACHER, ALEX RACINO and MATHEW CAMPAGNA scored single goals for the Wolves.
Wolves’ goaltender ALAIN VALIQUETTE was the brightest light for the Wolves. VALIQUETTE faced 114 shots on the weekend and made 107 saves for a save percentage of .938. His goals against average was a sparkling 2.33 during the three games. VALIQUETTE was named the game’s first star on Sunday in Brampton.
