$10,000 Donated
The Burgess & Edwards Families presented a cheque today to the SMILEZONE FOUNDATION in support of local upgrades to the Northern Cancer Centre’s Children’s Treatment area in Sudbury.
The children’s treatment area received a number of furniture and visual upgrades to make time spent at the treatment centre a little more comfortable for young patients and their families.
“On behalf of the Burgess & Edwards families, it is my pleasure to be able to give back to the community of Greater Sudbury in this manner” says Wolves’ owner Mark Burgess. “The Smilezone program is a very popular one across the province and our family and the Sudbury Wolves organization is very proud to support the Children’s Cancer treatment centre here in Sudbury.”
Today’s announcement comes on a weekend where the Burgess Family and the Sudbury Wolves will also be presenting a cheque to the Fabio Belli Family Education Trust Fund in the amount of $11,200 at Friday’s game with the Windsor Spitfires. The funds were raised at a Wolves’ home game held in October where tickets were donated by the Burgess Family and the Sudbury Wolves and funds were raised through a silent auction at the October game.
The Wolves will also be dedicating this Saturday night’s game in memory of Liam Kirkwood who passed away last year at the age of 18 from cancer. Tickets have been donated by the Wolves to local community groups to assist in raising funds for the Childrens Wish Foundation in support of Kids with Cancer.
A special pre-game ceremony will be held prior to the start of Saturday’s game with the Kingston Frontenacs. Both OHL teams will be wearing #22 helmet decals in memory of the Sudbury-born Liam Kirkwood, who was selected by the Kingston Frontenacs in 2010 Priority Selection.
Saturday’s game is also sponsored by Travelodge Hotel Sudbury. Travelodge Is sponsoring the annual TEDDY BEAR TOSS promotion as all fans attending the game are asked to bring a new stuffed animal to the game to toss onto the ice when the Wolves score their first goal of the game against Kingston. All stuffed animals collected will be donated to the local toy drive in support of families in need at Christmas.
