Steve joined the Rangers during the 2007-08 season in a trade with the London Knights. In 2008, he backstopped Team Canada to a gold medal at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship. Mason was undefeated in five games and was named the tournament's Top Goaltender and Most Valuable Player. Selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the third round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Mason joined the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League for three games before making his NHL debut in 2008. Steve won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the 2008-09 NHL Rookie of the Year and was a nominee for the 2009-10 Vezina Trophy.
