Matt played four seasons in the OHL for the Kitchener Rangers, Peterborough Petes, Plymouth Whalers and Barrie Colts, followed by two years at Concordia University. The Orleans, Ontario-native played parts of three seasons in the Southern Professional and International Hockey Leagues, and overseas in the Netherlands and German Oberliga. In 2006-07 he posted a career best 72 points in 40 games playing for the Den Haag Wolves (Netherlands).
