Player of the Month Winners
The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announce the winners of February’s
“Player of the Month” Awards.
The winner of the MOLSON CANADIAN 3-STAR AWARD is Wolves’ forward ERIC
O’DELL. The Ottawa native and Atlanta Thrashers forward led the Wolves
in scoring during the month of February with 20 points in 12 games.
O’DELL recorded 10 goals and 10 assists and helped lead the Wolves to
seven wins in February. O’DELL returned to the Wolves’ line-up in
mid-December after rehabilitating from off-season surgery. The
20-year-old star forward has returned to top form and has been on an
offensive tear of late recording two hat-tricks in the final two weeks
of February. In addition to being the MOLSON CANADIAN 3-STAR award
winner, Eric has been an outstanding leader for the Wolves’ young
players. The Wolves are very fortunate to have a player of Eric’s
talents and character return to the Sudbury and help lead the young
Wolves’ team into the post season.
The winner of the TRAVELODGE HOTEL COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD is MARCUS
FOLIGNO. This is the second-time that the Buffalo Sabres prospect has
won this award this season. Marcus made a number of public appearances
during the month of February including community fundraising events,
autograph sessions and school visits. FOLIGNO, 19, suffered a knee
injury in early February and spent a good deal of time on the sidelines
waiting for his return to the Wolves’ line-up on March 1st. The
Wolves’ captain made himself available to hundreds of local youngsters
seeking his autograph in February as the TEAM CANADA star forward has
seen his popularity rise to epic proportions. The Wolves’ organization
and the Burgess Family recognized Marcus for his outstanding
contributions prior to the start of the Wolves’ home game on March 1st
against the Soo Greyhounds.
The winner of the INDUSTRIAL ALLIANCE PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARD is
MICHAEL SGARBOSSA. The 18-year-old star forward from Campbellville,
Ontario assumed the lead in team scoring in February. SGARBOSSA, was
obtained in a trade with the Saginaw Spirit in December and the San Jose
Sharks forward has been nothing short of sensational since his arrival
in Sudbury. SGARBOSSA recorded 19 points in the month of February
including 7 goals and 12 assists. He scored four power play goals and
added a short-handed marker. Since his arrival in Sudbury, SGARBOSSA
has recorded 50 points in 29 games including 24 goals and 26 assists.
He has also earned a sparkling +10 rating. SGARBOSSA has become one of
the most exciting players to don a Wolves’ jersey and the Wolves’
faithful and the entire organization are grateful to Michael for his
dedication and commitment to his new team.
The winner of the CAMPBELL’S SCHOLASTIC PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARD is
Wolves’ forward GREG JAMBROSICH. JAMBROSICH, 17, has been an
outstanding student all season long and recently earned an 80% average
in three university-level courses at Lasalle Secondary School. The
Stoney Creek, Ontario native has also qualified for a School of Commerce
Academic Scholarship from Laurentian University. Jambrosich continues
to improve his on-ice play and has developed into one of the Wolves’
most dynamic forwards with his outstanding speed and ability to record
10 goals this season. JAMBROSICH scored a dramatic game-tieing goal
against the Guelph Storm on January 29th. JAMBROSICH has been playing
in all situations for the Wolves of late including specialty teams and
has performed extremely well.
Honourable mentions for the Wolves’ final monthly awards are ANDREY
KUCHIN and JOSH MCFADDEN. KUCHIN, 19, recorded 18 points in February
including 7 goals while MCFADDEN, 19, recorded 16 points in 12 games
from his defensive position. McFADDEN currently sits in 3rd place in
league scoring among all OHL defencemen.
All monthly award winners will receive their award from their respective
sponsor at the Wolves’final regular season game on Friday, March 11th
when the Wolves host the BELLEVILLE BULLS at 7:30pm.
