
Ken MacKenzie is a prominent figure in the Sudbury Wolves organization, serving as the team’s Head Coach and Assistant General Manager.
Ken returns as our Head Coach for his second stint in the position, having previously coached the team for four seasons from 1988 to 1992 and sits as one of the most successful Head Coaches in franchise history. Throughout his first term, he posted a winning percentage of 0.521%, the highest among any Wolves coach with three or more seasons with the club. His dedication and longevity to the Wolves organization make him one of our hockey club’s most dedicated persons in the history of the Wolves. Under Ken’s guidance, the Wolves celebrated over 120 victories during his time as Head Coach. In the 2022-23 season, he stepped in as the Interim Head Coach for seven games, where he posted an impressive record of 5 wins, 1 loss, and 1 overtime loss, resulting in a winning percentage of 0.786%.
Ken possesses an exceptional understanding of the game and of a players’ skills and talent and has consistently demonstrated his ability to develop each player to their maximum. His connection to the organization runs deep, as his son Derek MacKenzie had a remarkable playing career as a star player for the Sudbury Wolves and long NHL career where he was captain of the Florida Panthers. Derek’s talent led him to serve as an Assistant Coach in Florida, where he played a crucial role in helping the Panthers win the Presidents’ Trophy before he returned to be the Wolves Head Coach, joined by Ken on the bench.
In his role as Assistant General Manager, Ken MacKenzie utilizes his vast hockey experience by working closely with the General Manager and the coaching staff, focusing on player development, and fostering positive relationships and the well-being and support of the team’s players off the ice.
