Colts Edge Wolves
The Wolves dropped a close 2-1 decision to the Barrie Colts on Saturday night in Barrie. The win moves the Colts to within six points of the 1st place Wolves in the Central Division. The two rivals will meet again today in Sudbury at 2 o’clock. The season series now stands at 4-2 in favour of the Wolves.
The Colts took a 1-0 lead after the first period and led 2-0 after the second period. Danny Desrochers scored early in the third period to narrow the gap but the Wolves couldn’t get the equalizer despite outshooting the Colts 31-28 in front of 4,100 fans in Barrie.
The Colts were 1 for 3 with the man advantage while the Wolves were scoreless on three power play opportunities. Franky Palazzese was outstanding in goal for the Wolves stopping a number of point-blank chances by the Colts.
The Wolves suffered another injury in the second period of this contest as 17-year- old defenceman Conor Cummins suffered an upper-body injury and did not return to the Wolves’ bench. It appears that the big, strong rear-guard will be lost to the Wolves for the immediate future.
The Wolves were without the services of 40-goal-man Nathan Pancel along with rookie forward David Zeppieri and defenceman Kyle Capobianco due to numbers.
The Wolves will now begin a 5-game home-stand which begins Sunday at 2 pm against the Barrie Colts. The Erie Otters are in town on Monday night at 7 pm (due to a rescheduling of Friday’s game), the Soo Greyhounds will be in town on Wednesday night at 7 pm, the Guelph Storm will be here on Friday night at 7:30 and the Niagara IceDogs will be here on Saturday night for VALE SUDBURY SATURDAY NIGHT! Game time on Saturday is 7 pm.
