Wolves Select Two in CHL Import Draft
(Greater Sudbury, ON) – The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announce that they have selected two Slovakian forwards Jan Chovan and Adam Nemec following the 2024 CHL Import Draft.
In the first round, 36th overall, the Wolves selected 6’2, 181lbs, forward, Jan Chovan. During the 2023-24 season, Jan played for the Tappara U18 and the U20 team playing a cumulative of 50 games. Though those 50 games Jan scored 19 goals, 25 assists, for 44 points. He also represented his country for team Slovakia in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup recording 4 points (1G-3A) as well played in the IIHF World U18 Championship playing 7 games which including two-goals and an assist.
“Jan is a player we have been high on all season long,” said Wolves VP and General Manager Rob Papineau. “He had a tremendous season in U18, and we believe he will be a top pick in the 2025 NHL draft. We feel the OHL will put him head-to-head with the top draft eligible players in the world where he will thrive. He is a very smart complete player.”
Jan is recognized as a big powerful, high-compete forward who can play both sides of the puck very well. He was one of the most productive players in the Finish U18 league with 31 points (12G-19A) through 20 games. He has a strong hockey intelligence positioning himself well to force turnovers in the neutral zone and create counter-attack rushes. Jan moves well in small arenas with great hands and puck possession. Jan is a highly regarded player heading into the 2025 NHL Entry Draft and is also the son of Toronto Maple Leafs 2001, 213th overall pick, Ján Chovan.
In the second round 96th overall, the Wolves selected 6’, 184lbs, forward Adam Nemec from Slovakia. During the 2023-24 season, Adam played for HK Nitra U20 team through 43 regular season games he notched 28 goals, 29 assists, for 57 points. In addition, Adam played 11 post season games collecting 8-points (4G-4A). He also played with Jan for team Slovakia in the IIHF World U18 Championship netting 2 goals through 7 games.
“Adam is an elite skilled forward that can both score and set up teammates,” said Wolves VP and General Manager Rob Papineau. “He is highly skilled and as a late birthdate we felt he will really benefit from adjusting to the small ice in North America where he is positioned to have a very long pro career.”
Adam is a late 07 born player, playing as a 16-year-old on a U20 team he is a very talented mature player. He is an elite and highly offensive player who has excelled at all levels. His speed, compete and offensive awareness separate him from his peers making him a very highly regarded player for the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. Adam is the younger brother of New Jersey Devils, Simon Nemec the 2nd overall pick, of the 2022 NHL Draft.
