Help spread the word and vote for Fergus native Kevin Cassidy this weekend as he looks to win $100,000 for Centre Wellington Minor Hockey Association.
Help my local minor hockey association win $100,000 – please vote for me on March 23. Kevin Cassidy is in the top 100 finalists for the Kraft Hockey Goes On Volunteer Recognition program, and voting runs March 23-24. The top five grand prize-winning nominees will be announced on April 3 – each grand prize winner will win $100,000 for their selected minor hockey organization. An additional 20 second prize winners will receive $20,000 to be awarded to their slected minor hockey organization.
In the communities of Fergus and Elora, home to Centre Wellington Minor Hockey, the name of Kevin Cassidy easily comes to the forefront when the discussion centres around hockey. Kevin moved to Fergus in 1987 and immediately joined Fergus Minor Hockey as a Select Team Coach. He joined the FMHI Board shortly after as a Local League Director.
This was just the start as he has been a member continuously since then holding positions of Rep Director, Ice Scheduler, OMHA Convenor, Referee-in-Chief, VP Rep, Vice President, and his current position as President. When registration dropped at the older age groups, Kevin was one of the main instigators in the amalgamation of Fergus and Elora Minor Hockey to form Centre Wellington Minor Hockey, and was instrumental in seeing it through to a successful conclusion in 2008.
Kevin also realized that in order to make a difference at the local level he needed to participate at the League level. In 2003, he was elected as President of the Tri-County Minor Hockey League, a position he has held since then. He has worked diligently in this role to ensure that TCMHL remains a strong organization that promotes activities for the betterment of our youth.
