Storm wins in overtime to even series
The Owen Sound Attack had just turned the puck over at the Storm blueline and Marchese carried the puck up the left side on a rush with linemates Tyler Boston and Marc Stevens.
Stevens did his part, driving the net and allowing Marchese to shift slightly to his right to get a better shooting angle. He then fired a wrist shot between the blocker and pad of Attack netminder Jack Flinn to give the Storm the 5-4 win.
“It was kind of a blur for me. Phil (Baltisberger) made a nice play to get it up to me and we had a three-on-one. I decided to shoot it, picked a good spot, and was fortunate enough for it to go in,” Marchese said.
“You don’t expect it. But when you get it you have to capitalize. Situations like that can turn a series around.”
The Guelph Storm sure hopes so.
The win evens up the best-of-seven Western Conference quarter-final at a game apiece. The series now switches to Owen Sound for games on Tuesday and Wednesday. Game 5 is Saturday in Guelph.
“We really needed this win on home ice. You lose two games at home you’re not in a good situation,” Marchese said.
His game winner came 2:47 into the extra period and marked a bit of a roller coaster ride for the Storm and its fans on the night.
