Storm takes down Wolves
Sunday afternoon at the Sleeman Centre in front a crowd just shy of 3,700, the Storm surrendered the first goal of the game before roaring back with four straight to put away the visiting Sudbury Wolves.
Former Guelph blueliner Ben Chiarot opened the scoring for the visitors on the man advantage banging a rebound past Brandon Foote. The seven plus minute lead was their only edge of the afternoon as Taylor Beck sparked a three goal outburst with his 10th of the campaign. Peter Holland on the powerplay and Carter Sandlak’s third of the season made it three tallies in 3:13 and gave the hosts a 3-1 lead.
After a four-goal first period, the scoring slowed down in the final two stanzas with Chris Van Laren striking against his former club and Mike Lomas replying for the Wolves in the second. The third period would be scoreless until Peter Holland broke out of the Guelph zone and eventually fired his 15th of the season into the empty net with only 14 seconds remaining to make it a 5-2 final.
The Storm will look to make it two in a row on Tuesday night when they travel to Kitchener to face the Rangers in a 7 pm start. Then next Friday night, the Plymouth Whalers come to the Sleeman Centre for a 7:30 pm start.
