Storm Stung by Sting
The Guelph Storm turned in a brutal performance yesterday. Just ask them.
In what was its worst defeat of the season, the Storm plodded its way through a 6-1 loss to the Sarnia Sting at the Sleeman Centre before 4,270 – most of whom were long gone before the final buzzer sounded.
“It’s like we forgot our brains and some of them forgot their hearts,” said coach Jason Brooks, who let his team have it with both barrels in his postgame interview. “It was by far the worst effort of the season.
“It was the first time I’ve seen a lot of individualism. The first time I’ve seen us quit in the game. We had selfish players. We didn’t execute. Whatever you can think of that’s poor – we were that.”
Losing by five goals on home ice had Brooks so distraught he didn’t even go into the dressing room after the game. Instead several of the team’s veteran players held a meeting.
“How come we’ve won 24 hockey games and all of a sudden we went stupid?” Brooks asked.
It was a rhetorical question.
He didn’t get personal, perhaps because there were too many players that mailed it in yesterday to name. The only player he did single out was goaltender Brandon Foote, who let in a couple of softies but also made plenty of big saves.
