Winners of five in a row, the Storm welcomes a pair of Eastern Conference oppponents to the Sleeman Centre this weekend beginning on Friday night at 7:30 when the Belleville Bulls come to town. Then on Sunday afternoon, the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors come to the Royal City for a 2 pm start.
After stumbling to a disappointing 0-2-0-1 start against a trio of clubs that now own a combined 20-9-1-1 record, the Storm has reeled off five straight victories. The current streak includes wins over the previously unbeaten Kitchener Rangers and Soo Greyhounds while outscoring their opponents 20-13.
Special teams continue to sputter for the Storm with their 16th ranked powerplay only converting on 16% of opportunities. Guelph has also struggled shorthanded in the early going with a penalty kill success rate of only 70.2% to sit 19th in the OHL.
Overage captain Matt Kennedy has picked up where he left off last season and currently leads the Storm with seven goals in eight games. Kennedy also leads the club in powerplay goals (4) and points (11), while Taylor Beck has a team best six assists and linemate Michael Latta’s +7 plus/minus is tops.
