Storm scorers gone, so a chance for others
By Tony Saxon, Guelph Mercury
In junior hockey, with change comes opportunity.
The Guelph Storm graduated six of its top seven scorers from last season and the top returning scorer, Robby Fabbri, will likely miss plenty of time with an extended stay with the NHL’s St. Louis Blues and the Canadian world junior team.
So, the team is looking for players who played complimentary roles last season on the third and fourth lines to step up and help fill a rather gaping offensive void.
One of those players is second-year centre Tyler Boston.
“I think every once in a while you get your opportunity in the ‘O’ and I think this year is my time to maybe step up my game,” Boston said, between scrimmages Tuesday. “I’m going to get a lot of opportunity. So, I’ve got to embrace and take advantage of that opportunity.”
Boston, who played tier II hockey as a 16-year-old and is now technically a third-year junior, had 10 goals and 13 assists in 55 games last season.
“I think as a rookie you’re expected to be on that third and fourth line. But now you’re expected to show up and be a first- and second-line guy,” Boston said.
The Toronto native said he wants to be a top-six forward on the team.
