Storm’s finale mirrored season

In many ways, the end to the Guelph Storm playoff season was indicative of their season overall.
In the 6-5 home loss Sunday to close off its opening-round playoff series to Saginaw, the Storm had moments of greatness, of firepower, of commendable character, and times where all those elements were utterly lacking as well.
It showed a lot of pride for this team to claw back from a 6-2 deficit in a do-or-die game to make it 6-5 and almost tie it. But it also showed a great deal that the team frittered away a 2-1 lead on home ice, in such a game, to then be down because of five consecutive goals.
This Storm team was maddeningly inconsistent. This team possessed all sorts of scoring talent, a corps of solid veterans, capable netminders, and a seasoned crew of defencemen. It could beat any team in junior hockey and lose to any such club the very next night.
The up and down play of the team cost Jason Brooks, first, his general manager’s job, and then his coaching job as well. Given Scott Walker’s inability to shake the club from its hot and cold ways, it will be interesting to see what his fate will be with the team – and if he wants to stay behind this bench or any one.
