Storm picks busy at prospect games
Several Guelph Storm picks from recent OHL Priority Selections have been busy over the last few weeks at prospect showcase events around Ontario. The list of players includes Kevin Lough, Carlos Amestoy, Luke Juha and Shawn Crowley.
Selected by the Storm in the 13th round of the 2008 OHL Priority Selection, Lough represented the Central Junior ‘A’ Hockey League on their ‘Young Stars’ roster in the Battle of Ontario versus Juha and Amestoy who were selected to represent the CCHL ‘Prospects’ roster. Juha was chosen by Guelph in the fifth round in 2009, while Amestoy was taken a year earlier in round seven.
Lough and the CJHL prospects came out on the winning end of a 6-3 decision in Pembroke, Ontario. The Cumberland Grads blueliner picked up a goal in the win. Amestoy also scored in the game, while 16 year old Juha didn’t dress in the game as an alternate.
More recently, Crowley was part of the GOJHL Prospects Game held in Fort Erie, Ontario. The Strathroy Rockets’ blueliner and his Western Conference / Midwest Conference teammates picked up a 9-5 win. Crowley was held off the scoresheet in the victory.
Kevin Lough 2009/10 season notes… after sticking with the Storm until the final day of their 2009 Training Camp, Lough returned to Cumberland for a second season. The 5-11 defenceman has 18 points in 44 games for the first place Grads.
Luke Juha 2009/10 season notes… Juha impressed early on with the Burlington Cougars racking up a six point game in his rookie campaign. The 16 year old Mississauga native has remained on a point per game pace from the Cougars blueline picking up 25 points in 24 games and currently has an impressive +24 plus/minus rating for first place Burlington.
Carlos Amestoy 2009/10 season notes… tabbed by Storm scouts as one of the most ‘dynamic’ players in the 2008 OHL Priority Selection, Amestoy is enjoying a breakout season with the Toronto Red Wings. One year after posting 25 points in 43 games, Amestoy has racked up 42 points in 43 games including a team-best 3 shorthanded tallies.
Shawn Crowley 2009/10 season notes… In his second season of junior with Strathroy, Crowley has already matched his rookie totals with nearly a third of the schedule remaining. The steady blueliner made an impression at Guelph’s training camp and continues to improve his all around game.
