Storm overpowered by Rangers
Tuesday night in Kitchener, the Storm scored first and then watched the Rangers pour in seven unanswered on their way to a 7-1 loss.
Looking to make it two in a row after a 5-2 win on Sunday afternoon over Sudbury, the Storm came out strong in Kitchener controlling play early and jumping out to a 1-0 lead. Andrey Pedan set up the opening goal with a long wrist shot that Michael Latta deflected past Brandon Maxwell. The visitors would continue to press until penalty troubles gave the OHL’s top powerplay the chance to turn the game around. Kitchener would score three straight with the man advantage to close out the first period and take a 3-1 lead.
The final forty minutes were dominated by Kitchener with four more goals including another powerplay tally burying the Storm.
Shots on goal were 52-35 on the night with the Rangers converting on four of 14 powerplays while Guelph was scoreless in four attempts. Ryan Murphy (pictured) was the first star picking up a point on each of Kitchener’s four powerplay markers.
The Storm will look to rebound from the setback on Friday night at home when the Plymouth Whalers visit the Sleeman Centre for the front end of a home-and-home series that shifts to Plymouth on Saturday evening. Friday night’s game is Guelph’s third annual Red Friday game in honour of local Armed Forces members that are serving overseas. Family members will be on hand at the game and fans are encouraged to wear red to show their support.
