Sparks nets first OHL shutout
By Tony Saxon, Guelph Mercury
Rookie Guelph Storm defenceman Zach Leslie appears to be figuring out the Ontario Hockey League.
Leslie scored his first OHL goal and an assist and Garret Sparks made 25 saves for his first OHL shutout as the Storm blanked the Erie Otters 5-0 in Erie Saturday night.
That gave Leslie five points in a pair of weekend wins. Friday he had three assists in a 4-2 win over Oshawa.
“He’s doing the little things you want him to do better,” Storm coach Scott Walker said of Leslie’s recent improve play.
“It’s a hard position to learn and it’s a long season with lots of ups and downs. What you want to see is fewer downs than ups as the season goes on.”
Walker said the biggest improvement in Leslie’s play has been his increased effort.
