Storm vs. Bulls In-Game
Comment on this story below.
Friday night at the Sleeman Centre, the Storm played without their top two scorers from last season with Matt Kennedy and Peter Holland nursing injuries, but managed to collect their sixth straight win against the hard working Belleville Bulls.
For the second night in a row, Guelph fell behind 1-0 in the early going. Luke Judson notched the game’s first goal when he grabbed a Cody St. Jacques rebound in a crowd of Storm jerseys and found the back of the net. The lead would be short lived as Tyler Carroll replied for the Storm only 22 seconds later for his first of the season when he one-timed a Taylor Beck feed past Tyson Teichmann with Michael Latta collecting the second assist. Adam Comrie would double the lead to two goals on the man advantage with his first of two on the night just past the mid way mark of the frame. Comrie’s point shot was going just wide before it struck the skate of a Belleville defender and redirected into the Bulls’ goal. Corey Syvret and Cody McNaughton picked up helpers on Comrie’s third in a Storm uniform. Shots on goal after one were 10-8 in favour of the hosts.
The game would remain 2-1 for over 20 minutes until Guelph would strike again on the powerplay. This time Comrie’s point shot would hit the end boards and rebound to the side of the net where Taylor Beck pounced on the loose puck and buried the rebound. Syvret would collect his second assist on the eventual winner. Belleville would fight back again to pull within one when Guelph native Stephen Johnston notched a powerplay goal through traffic with a linemate camped inside the crease and causing problems for St. Jacques. Belleville had another late powerplay in the second and came close to knotting the game at two but St. Jacques continued his solid play of late to maintain the one goal bulge stopping 13 of 14 Bulls’ attempts while Teichmann allowed just the single on eight Guelph shots.
