Rookie rises to occasion as Storm tosses Spits
By Tony Saxon, Guelph Mercury
One man’s virus is another man’s opportunity.
With first-line centre Tanner Richard left back in Guelph with the flu, rookie Robby Fabbri was promoted to the Guelph Storm’s top line Sunday in Windsor and took full advantage.
While Fabbri only recorded one assist in Guelph’s 6-3 victory, both his linemates scored and his uptempo style created lots of difficulty for the Spits.
Fabbri also drew a couple of penalties and was awarded a penalty shot in the first period when he was hauled down on a partial breakaway. He beat Spits goaltender Jordan DeKort but hit the goalpost with a hard wrist shot.
“Richard was sick, so I got moved up. It’s fun playing on the top line. Mitch (Zach Mitchell) and Kozy (Scott Kosmachuk) are really skilled offensively, and it was great playing with them for a game,” Fabbri said.
“We just wanted it more today. We came out hard and went through the game the same well.”
Storm coach Scott Walker said Fabbri brought a different dimension to the line.
“Robby played well. He’s a little bit of a different player than Tanner, who slows the game down and makes passes. Fabs is faster, hunts the puck down and can dipsy doodle. It’s good to see that he can do it,” said Walker, who also praised Fabbri’s work on faceoffs.
